Understanding High Blood Pressure

Hypertension is one of the most common, and most manageable, health conditions in adults. This guide walks through what it means for you and what you can do about it. Normal High

Blood pressure is a range, not a single verdict. Where you sit on it can shift — and move back — over time.

The two numbers

120/80mmHg

Systolic — pressure while your heart beats

Diastolic — pressure while it rests

A typical healthy reading is below 120/80. Numbers consistently at or above 130/80 are considered elevated — worth a conversation with your doctor, not a cause for alarm.

What you can do

Move & eat

  • A 30-minute walk most days
  • Fresh food over salty, packaged food
  • Vegetables, fruit, whole grains, lean protein

Daily habits

  • Limit alcohol; avoid smoking
  • Small stress outlets — sleep, breathing, hobbies
  • Keep regular checkups to track trends

Medication, if prescribed

  • Take it consistently, even feeling fine
  • High BP often has no symptoms — it’s still working
  • Ask before stopping or changing a dose

A reassuring note: high blood pressure is extremely common and very treatable. Most people who manage it well go on to live full, active lives. Small, steady changes tend to matter more than dramatic overhauls — progress adds up.

Ask your doctor

  • What is my current blood pressure goal?
  • Should I monitor it at home?
  • What lifestyle changes fit my situation?
  • How often should it be checked?

This handout is for general education and does not replace advice from your healthcare provider. Always talk to your doctor about your specific situation.

PCOS is now PMOS

PCOS is now PMOS

As published in _The Lancet_  in May 2026, PCOS ( Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome) is being renamed Polyendocrine Metabolic Ovarian Syndrome (PMOS) to better serve over 170 million people worldwide.

The old name misleadingly suggested the condition was just about ovarian cysts. In contrast, the new name accurately highlights its complex, systemic hormonal and metabolic effects.

This change was driven by a global collaboration between patients and medical professionals.

Over the next three years, a comprehensive transition plan will roll out this new name globally.

The ultimate goals of this update are to raise awareness, speed up accurate diagnoses, reduce stigma, and significantly improve healthcare quality and treatment outcomes for patients.

Nature Walks for Mental Wellness

Incorporating daily nature walks into my routine has been a transformative experience for my mental wellness. Living in a busy city, the constant hustle and noise often leave me feeling overwhelmed. These walks offer a peaceful escape. They help me disconnect from the chaos. I find tranquility in the city’s green spaces.

Each walk is a meditative journey, filled with the soothing sounds of nature and refreshing fresh air. I pay attention to the beauty around me. I notice the intricate patterns on leaves and the vibrant colours of flowers. This helps me appreciate life’s small joys. These moments of reflection and stillness offer a much-needed break from mental clutter. They help me process emotions. They also clear my mind.

Overall, nature walks have brought a sense of balance and calm to my life, significantly improving my mood and well-being. They serve as a reminder of the importance of taking time to care for my mental health.

Why Mental Health Matters?

Mental health impacts everything—how you think, feel, and act. It’s crucial for managing stress, relating to others,  and making decisions.

Mental health is just as much or sometimes even more important than physical health, for some.

Neglecting mental health can lead to serious issues like anxiety, depression and other disorders, which can ripple through your entire life, affecting relationships, work, and overall happiness.

Taking it seriously means investing in a better, healthier life.

What steps do you take to keep your mental health in check?
